The film tells the story of the Garifuna women of Central America who have been passing on their threatened oral traditions for more than 200 years.

Long Synopsis

The film tells the story of the Garifuna women on the Caribbean shores of Central America who have been passing on their threatened oral traditions for generations.

As they sing their stories with their bluesy voices and spirited drumming, we enter the universe of Sofia, Chela, Desere and Marcelina. A world where hope and love will reveal their unbreakable spirit and the power to transform.

Katia Paradis

Director

A citizen of both Belize and Canada, Katia has been working in the audiovisual milieu for more than fifteen years. Born of a Spanish mother and a Quebec father, she grew up in Canada, where she graduated in Communications with a specialization in television production. Katia is involved throughout the region, working to advance national cinematography in Central America.

Interested in music and in tradition, she ponders the place that music takes in the hearts of a people in her first feature film, Three Kings of Belize, which won critical acclaim for its sensitivity and for the latitude provided to the characters.

Katia is currently working on two film projects featuring musicians from Central America.
