Went to Good Pitch
Newtown, a documentary explores the aftermath of the mass shooting in Newtown, CT where the lives of 20 elementary school children and 6 educators were taken by a gunman on 12/14/12. Joining the growing ranks of the club to which no one wants to belong, the lives of several characters interconnect and propel the town toward introspection and action.
Two years after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School -- the small New England town is a complex psychological web of tragic aftermath in the wake of yet another act of mass killing at the hands of a disturbed young gunman.
Newtown, a documentary is an intimate portrait of a town in grief and recovery. An odyssey back and forth through the timeframe of trauma, we weave through a myriad of characters within Newtown and beyond, one fate connected to another. We come to know families, immersed in a surreal fog of despair, perseverance and unthinkable strength required to carry on each day. Together, these intimate stories, along with those of teachers, neighbors, first responders, and clergy, reveal reverberating rings of grief, compassion, survivor guilt, and the profound desire to create meaningful change out of a tragedy that that will mark their town for generations to come.
Through the lens of this horrific historic event we begin to understand, experientially, the far-reaching fallout of community trauma, and in turn, the capacity for collective compassion and resilience.
