Sara is a researcher at the MIT Open Documentary Lab, where she writes about new forms of documentary storytelling, and an MS candidate in Comparative Media Studies at MIT. Sara was previously a Google News Lab Fellow at Witness in New York and the Researcher on Central America at Amnesty International in Mexico City. Prior to that she was the Americas Research Associate for the Committee to Protect Journalists, where she reported on press freedom and human rights issues in the US and Latin America. Sara has written about culture and politics as a freelance journalist in New York, South America and Southeast Asia. In 2008, she received a Fulbright Grant to research photojournalism and the Colombian armed conflict. She has served as a screener for documentary film festivals and has written widely about documentary film. She has a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and is from Brooklyn, New York.
