The Doc Society Fellowship scheme is back for 2018, offering UK filmmakers (artist, experimental, fiction, documentary, shorts and features) assistance in looking to make a career in feature documentary filmmaking.

This'll be the scheme's second intake.

Last year's fellows were Ashish Ghadiali (The Confession), Daisy-May Hudson (Halfway) and Marlon Rouse-Tavares (Then a Hero Comes Along).

"The Fellowship was like being inducted in to the Doc Society family. We were whisked away to Copehagen, Sheffield, went to screenings, master classes and formed numerous new relationships. But most importantly we had direct access to the Doc Society team who were there to discuss and advise on our projects."
Marlon Rouse-Tavares, Doc Society Fellow 2017

It's a 10 month scheme that will offer the following:

  • Mentorship from the experienced Doc Society film team.
  • One-to-one meetings with industry figures in the documentary landscape.
  • Complimentary delegation package; joining the Doc Society team at Good Pitch Europe 2018 in Amsterdam in October for the right candidate plus other documentary events throughout the year including Sheffield Doc/Fest.
  • All expenses will be paid to participants, including support for travel and additional costs for those based outside of the Greater London area.

We're looking for filmmakers who are working in the media industry (TV, advertising, gallery art, film, documentary and fiction) who have a real interest in developing a career in documentary filmmaking. You could have made a couple of shorts and are looking for advice on how to make a feature, or you could be looking for those links that can make a career in documentary filmmaking sustainable. We invite anyone from the UK - but please note, you have to be based in the UK!

This is not a paid scheme, nor will we be funding projects - if you are interested in funding opportunities, please take a look at our funds page and our resources pages for other funding opportunities within the documentary landscape.

The deadline is Friday 6 April!

We look forward to reading your applications and hopefully meeting you!
